Food Revolution: What Are We Eating?

 

Genetically Engineered Seeds, Aspartame, High Fructose Corn Syrup, and many more chemicals make up a large portion of our food. Sadly, many aren’t AWARE. This continues the belief that DISEASE is passed through genetics. This sounds insane to me! Should we maybe consider the food we ARE consuming could be causing DISEASE? Unfortunately, my dad died of liver cancer. Many of my co-worker’s parents have cancer or have HAD cancer and every day we hear of someone new. It’s crazy! I started asking questions. I was curious to what could REALLY be going on… 

 What are we Eating Today?

Mostly, food “like” products…filled with more chemicals than actual food! Big corporations have and continue to consolidate our food supply. The FDA permits lab creations into our food. Around 80% of all processed food contains genetically modified ingredients. This food is loaded with artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners. Not to mention the chemical preservatives! 10 billion animals are factory farmed yearly, not including fish. GMO feed is fed to our animals in combination with growth hormones and antibiotics. In addition, living conditions are small, dark, and unsanitary. Our largest GMO seed supplier (Monsanto) is also the largest herbicide supplier for those crops (Round-Up). Herbicides have disrupted soil quality leading to less nutritious vegetables. 90% of corn is GMO. Corn Syrup is in almost everything! What we need to know now…

High fructose corn syrup is metabolized differently by the body than Glucose. The metabolic burden of HFCS falls on the liver much like alcohol does. Consuming too much fructose is like consuming too much fat. This is contributing to the rise of non-alcoholic fatty liver. This leads to cirrhosis and eventually liver cancer. This happened to my dad. The body essentially becomes a vessel of toxic byproducts.  This affects an estimated 80 to 100 million people in the United States. In addition, HFCS stimulates appetite! This causes overeating which leads to excess body fat. One-third of the world is overweight after all. Again, the United States leads the way! Now let’s talk about Aspartame…the solution to weight loss! Just kidding! Aspartame is 200-times sweeter than REAL sugar, therefore LESS can be used which reduces caloric intake. Hence the reason it’s in fat-free food and diet soda. However, could the trade-off be deadly? Over 900 studies seem to believe so…however, some researchers have yielded to industry pressure and have downplayed the harmful effects. Go figure. Specifically, a study conducted by the Brigham & Women’s Hospital from Harvard University did this. They found aspartame consumption increased the risk of blood cancers, leukemia, and weight gain. Later, they retracted those statements explaining how the research was weak. Nevermind, that study spanned over 22 years! Other studies have shown an increased chance of brain tumors, lymphoma, irritable bowel syndrome, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and epilepsy. In addition, research shows when cancer cells are exposed to aspartame, they become more mobile! But wait, it gets better…Aspartame is also an excitotoxin! In conclusion…

 It’s imperative we raise our awareness on what we’re eating. Distractions in life along with slick marketing have caused us to ignore the basics. Blindly believing what we’ve been told has not been bliss. In fact, it’s been painful. Our relationship with food has changed. Therefore, it’s our responsibility to stop this momentum!
