SOUL

what is the connection?

Many people are aware of their mind and body. However, the soul remains an abstract concept to many but necessary to connect with the whole. Throughout life we learn about the functionality of our brain and how to treat our body for optimization, however, the true power that lies within remains a mystery. We truly are powerful beings and the acknowledgment of this fact is the first step in the right direction…

what is the soul?

George MacDonald said, “You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body”. In other words, the soul is the center of our human experience. In fact, it’s who we really are at our core with no visage. Our body is our vehicle. Since the soul is non-physical, the way it’s fed is different. For example, to feed our mind we may participate in reading or declaring positive affirmations. To feed our body, we may participate in nourishment and exercise. However, to feed our soul we must allow our mind and body to relax in order to get internally quiet. There are a number of different ways to feed our soul such as getting out into nature or by expressing a creative passion. Nevertheless, scientific research is now confirming MEDITATION may be the best way to connect with our inner-self. Believe it or not, practicing the silence of awareness may be proving to be a powerful antidote against hypertension, heart disease, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and addictive behaviors!

the potentiality of meditation

A study conducted on the effects of meditation by Harvard Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital proved it only takes 8 weeks of daily practice to rebuild a better brain! The MR images from the participants proved this. Therefore, this shows the remarkable plasticity of the brain. In other words, the brain has the ability to change at any age for the better or worse. This is great news and means anyone can benefit from this amazing practice of self-love!

how to meditate

In reality, there really aren’t any specific rules of how to meditate. There are general guidelines to assist those in need of a breakdown…

  • Find somewhere to sit in solitude peacefully with or without “zen like” music or a guided meditation.
  • Close the eyes. Focus on breathing. On the inhale, the diaphragm should raise. On the exhale, it should fall.
  • If thoughts arise, that is OK. Acknowledge them and allow them to pass on the exhale. Re-focus attention back to breathing.
  • The amount of time is up to you. “Some” time everyday is better than “no” time! I recommend between 10-20 minutes daily.
  • The end. Enjoy!
